I promised that I would try to review more movies, and since I’m going to the pre-show for #TheVisit tomorrow I figured I should review the last movie I saw. That movie just happened to be Sinister 2. I love horror movies, even though for the most part they generally suck and are a waste of money. I get to see them for free, so for me, that’s not an issue. If you’re a horror buff like me, you’ll know when to skip it and when it’s worth wasting 90 minutes of your life.
I’ve seen the first Sinister movie on several lists for the best modern horror movie, and while that is certainly debatable I will say it was a fairly good contender for the title. Unfortunately, this Sinister sequel was closer to a Children of the Corn reboot than it was a sequel to its own franchise.
Without giving away too much of the plot, I laughed at a majority of the scenes in the movie. There’s such little character development that by the end of the movie, it doesn’t really matter who dies because you don’t care anyway. The only redeeming thing about this movie was the films the kid had to watch. Those were scary and creepy in their own right, but is 10 minutes or less of scariness worth $21? Of course not.
Sadly, I wouldn’t even waste my time watching this on TV. If you can watch it free like me, it’s worth watching it once. It sadly falls flat in comparison to Sinister.
I always ask people one crucial question when they ask for my opinion of a horror movie: “Do you like horror movies?“
If you say yes: I would reply, it’s not worth your time or your money.
If you say no: I would reply, this movie will scare the pants off you.
