Libraries Are Important I Don’t Care What Anyone Says
I posted this rant on my Facebook about how your local libraries are important, but I don’t have too many friends on there, so I wanted to make my opinion known for those of you who don’t know me personally.
Y’all thought I was joking when I said if you don’t go to the library you will lose it. I get so angry when I see parents asking, “Where is a good place to take my child this summer for free?”
TAKE THEM TO THE LIBRARY.
If your child doesn’t like to read, they have computers to play games and comic books. They have free audiobooks. They have free classes on how to get a job and learning to use the computer. It’s not just for the poor or the elderly. EVERYONE NEEDS TO GO TO THE LIBRARY. People complain about being broke and hating their job, but won’t take advantage of free resources and then complain when they are gone. They closed down 400 voting centers in Texas. Don’t let them close down the libraries. We have 1.4 million people in this city. DO YOU REALLY WANT THERE TO BE FEWER PLACES TO VOTE?
*deep breath* Sorry, for all the screaming caps. I don’t mean to sound like Alex Jones, but I will keep screaming until people start to appreciate the library and all the good it does for the community. I’m going to school for this. If y’all let Amazon take over the libraries, you will have crushed not only my spirit but millions of others who love the library.
So I don’t care if you don’t have time to go to the library. MAKE TIME. A library card is free. Even if you owe money on your card, you can still attend events and use the computer.
If you think I’m overreacting, then unfriend me. I don’t need negativity in my life.
ETA: Amazon pay $0 in taxes, so you will still have to pay the same amount in taxes and no library.
Please take this time to find out where your local library is and get a free library card. If you live in the San Antonio area, feel free to check out the Ruth Mini Mobile Library or the San Antonio Public Library
